We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in our fundraising events.
The Matt Lange Fund has been established to help raise money for the purchase of a handicap van specially equipped for Matt to drive. The cost is estimated to be approximately $95,000.
Matt is a C5/6 quadriplegic. He was in a single car wreck November 21, 1997 at the age of 15 on the way home from school. (See his personal story.)
Until the car accident Matt was an extremely active and independent young man. Many of his hopes and dreams had to be modified after the accident. No high school sports or college baseball and definitely not a chance at a professional baseball career. Only in his dreams each night can he be completely independent, still walk, run, play baseball and do all the things he so loved to do.
His energy and drive were redirected toward the various therapies needed to rebuild his strength, learning new/adapted methods to write, type, eat, groom, etc.
December 15, 2006 Matt graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, KS with a degree in finance. To celebrate he concluded a driving training program through the Rehabilitation Institute and once again is licensed to drive.
Driving again will give Matt back some of the independence he has missed for the last 9+ years. He will have the ability to drive himself to and from work, on errands, or even a trip. Currently family and friends are recruited to drive him to appointments interviews, and even for nights out.
A fund has been established for Matt at Gardner National Bank, 840 E Main, Gardner, KS 66030. Checks should be made payable to the Matt Lange Fund. Our EIN is 14-1987066.
Thank you. Your support is appreciated.
